Soup therapy

There is something special about soup. It is warm, comforting, tasty, satisfying, and therapeutic. It also is usually inexpensive to make and is a great way to use up leftovers. The homemade hamburger and vegetable soup featured in the following photo is a good example. I love all of the colors and textures shown here.

My favorite soup in the whole world is a good split pea soup, made with broth from a hambone and with plenty of ham pieces in it. A close second is clam chowder, although it is made in a variety of ways. My preference is for a classic, fairly thick and creamy chowder with good quality pieces of clam and not overwhelmed by onions.

I found one website that ranked the top ten favorite soups in the U.S. I’m not sure whether this is scientific or not. What’s your favorite soup? Vote!
